What is a Roman Blind exactly?

Roman blinds pleat because of the way they are constructed. The fabric is attached to a headrail at the top of the blind, and then it is sewn into a series of horizontal pockets. Rods are threaded through the pockets, and when the cords are pulled, the rods lift the fabric up and fold it into pleats.

The type of fabric used for Roman blinds also affects the way they pleat. Heavier fabrics, such as blackout cloth, will create larger, more pronounced pleats. Lighter fabrics, such as sheer fabric, will create smaller, more delicate pleats.

The size of the pleats can also be controlled by the spacing of the rods. The closer the rods are spaced, the smaller the pleats will be. The farther apart the rods are spaced, the larger the pleats will be.

Finally, the way that the Roman blinds are raised and lowered can also affect the appearance of the pleats. If the blinds are raised slowly and evenly, the pleats will be neat and uniform. If the blinds are raised quickly or unevenly, the pleats may become messy or distorted.
